WTF?
Why the Foot?
The foot is its own microenvironment, containing more sweat glands than any other part of the body.
Housing a quarter of the bones in your body, over 100 muscles, tendons, and ligaments, approximately 8,000 nerves and let's not forget our toenails and skin.
Feet are your body's foundation, so keeping them healthy is vital to your overall health. The feet encounter a lot of stress throughout each day from moisture, friction, pressure, environmental factors, etc. Using the right products on your feet in conjunction with correct footwear and lifestyle is paramount in maintaining good foot health.
Podiatrists are degree qualified, medical professionals who diagnose, treat, and manage conditions of the lower limb and feet.
The Skin
The pH of the skin ranges from about 4.2 to 5.6 - commonly referred to as the ‘acid mantle’ of the stratum corneum (outermost layer of the epidermis). If the acid mantle of the skin is disturbed the skin can become red, inflamed, itchy, dry, and vulnerable.
Most soaps have a pH range of 9 -10 therefore stripping the acod mantle and damaging the skin.
PC Podiatrist Formula® products are specifically designed to work without disturbing the skin's barrier and therefore formulated at a low pH.
The main purpose of the skin is to serve as an organ of protection, from injury, infection pathogens, UV radiation, and moisture loss. The primary system of defence is the production of antimicrobial peptides (AMP).
By maintaining good foot hygiene, we can improve our immune system by upregulating natural moisturising factors which upregulate AMP therefore improving the skin's barrier which helps to ward off fungal, viral, and bacterial infections.
